Data Engineer / Data Scientist - ISR Readiness SME

Position Overview

Job Overview:The Data Engineer / Data Scientist provides advanced data engineering, analytics, visualization, and technical advisory supports Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) readiness initiatives. This position develops, maintains, and modernizes enterprise data pipelines, predictive analytics, artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, and executive dashboards supporting mission readiness across multiple classification domains. The role works closely with Government stakeholders to transform complex readiness data into actionable insights while ensuring data quality, governance, security, and compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, maintain, and optimize ETL/ELT data pipelines supporting readiness data from systems including DRRS, DEERS, Envision, and other Government data sources.
  • Develop, test, and maintain automated data integration processes that ensure accurate, reliable, and timely delivery of readiness information.
  • Build and maintain predictive analytics models utilizing statistical techniques, machine learning, and Government-approved Large Language Model (LLM) methodologies.
  • Produce monthly forecasting models, simulation analyses, and predictive readiness assessments.
  • Design, develop, and enhance interactive dashboards, reports, and visualizations using modern business intelligence tools.
  • Improve dashboard usability through UI/UX enhancements, user feedback incorporation, and version-controlled releases.
  • Develop cross-domain deployment packages supporting operations across NIPRNet, SIPRNet, and JWICS environments.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, technical specifications, release notes, and deployment documentation.
  • Develop and maintain data governance artifacts including:
    • Data Dictionaries
    • Data lineage documentation
    • Business rules
    • Data quality metrics
    • Metadata documentation
  • Perform complex data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, readiness gaps, and operational insights.
  • Conduct data validation, cleansing, quality assurance, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Coordinate with Government stakeholders, MAJCOM representatives, and functional users to gather requirements and validate analytical products.
  • Prepare technical reports, white papers, briefing materials, decision support products, and executive presentations.
  • Recommend improvements to existing reporting systems, analytic methodologies, automation processes, and visualization capabilities.
  • Participate in technical reviews, code reviews, configuration management, and version control activities.
  • Support Agile development, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release activities.
  • Prepare monthly status reports documenting accomplishments, risks, issues, and planned activities.
  • Ensure all products comply with Government security, cybersecurity, data governance, and configuration management requirements.

  • Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or related technical discipline.
    • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, business intelligence, or software development.
    • Experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines and enterprise data integration solutions.
    • Experience with SQL and relational databases and Python, R, or other data analysis programming languages.
    • Experience with business intelligence and dashboard development tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
    • Experience with machine learning, predictive analytics, or artificial intelligence methodologies.
    • Experience producing technical documentation and engineering artifacts.
    • Ability to work effectively with Government stakeholders and multidisciplinary technical teams.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience supporting U.S. Air Force, DoD, Intelligence Community, or Federal Government programs.
    • Experience working with readiness, personnel, logistics, or operational data.
    • Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI technologies.
    • Experience with cloud environments including Azure or AWS.
    • Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and Git-based version control.
    • Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
    • Experience supporting cross-domain solutions and multi-classification environments.
    • Familiarity with Agile Scrum development methodologies.
    • Knowledge of cybersecurity requirements including NIST RMF and DoD security practices. Advanced knowledge of data engineering principles and modern data architectures.
    • Ability to develop scalable, automated data pipelines.
    • Ability to transform complex datasets into meaningful visualizations and executive-level reporting.
    • Strong understanding of predictive analytics and statistical modeling techniques.
    • Ability to document technical processes in a clear and organized manner.
    • Must comply with all DoD cybersecurity, information assurance, and data handling requirements.


    Benefits:
    • Salary Range: $155,000–$175,000 annually, commensurate with experience, qualifications, security clearance, certifications, and contract requirements.
